Admired Most

Gallup’s Most Admired list is out proving once again our
inability to answer an open-ended question in an authentic way.
What about the man who lost his wife this past year to cancer
but who still rides his bike each day to sort mail as the post office slowly dies?
And what of the shy lady in her pink Crocs and lime green North Face jacket
who comes in each evening to straighten up the messes we’ve made?
The two retired angels with steaming mitts of Starbucks standing
guard each school morning to safely cross the children, what about them?
And how could we overlook that high school girl, the one who’s both
smart and pretty, the fabled mermaid learning to navigate life’s channels?
The world is not worthy of them but I for one am glad they stay.

  1. Yes, yes, yes. They are the most admired.

  2. La Vonne Glanville says:

Wonderful! And how about the folks who work day in and day out with the handicapped or mentally ill! They get very high ranks in my book.
