Bearing

In the beginning was the word, scattered everywhere.
Then the word was assembled with experience, colored
with the red of blood and the black of eyes, and the word
became a sentence and the story took shape.
The question posed to the magi was not what gifts do you bring?
but good or bad, either way, can you bear the story?
It is a question best borne with song.
That is why the angels sang, and so must we.

You paint such beautiful pictures with your words. My husband and I always look forward to seeing what you have created.

    Absolutely beautiful! Thank you!

What a beautiful poem! I highlighted it today on The High Calling, in our “featured” post section. Thanks for sharing it. :)

  3. So.Must.We. Sang through an ENTIRE caroling songsheet at the memory loss unit where my MIL lives (sort of. . . hard to recognize life as we usually understand it). And somehow, it was the very best way to bear – the story, the reality, the loss. Thank you, as always, for your fine and true words.

“…can you bear the story?” What a thought provoking question. I will ask myself this throughout the Christmas season. Sometimes the bearing is painful, but mostly it brings me joy to be a character in this most sacred story. Thank you!
