I don’t know if I’ll see another autumn.
Yesterday I got the quiet golds (the polar
opposite of Holly Golightly’s mean reds).
There, standing in an array of unruffled
aspens, I wasn’t afraid of anything.
There were no angels or ladders or voices
only white arms rising out of the earth
with black freckles and golden lamps like
fire shooting from their fingertips.
I think Adam must have had the quiet golds,
there in that proud real-life Eden standing
calm about tomorrow so he bought some
furniture and gave the cat a name.
I don’t know if I’ll see another autumn.
If not, golly gee damn. But I’ve seen this one.

Love it! Those golden moments are so rare. We have to pause and immortalize them in verse.
Laughed out loud at that last line. And then I stopped. Because, really? Not one of us is promised one more autumn, are we? Thanks.
“…standing calm about tomorrow so he bought some furniture and gave the cat a name.”
I really like that.
Dear, dear Cat. Poor slob.
