John…words fail me as I view this clip. Tears flow as I view this gifted man both in his prime and in his present state. An awesome work.

I know I’m tired because I was up with a sick boy last night, but I don’t think that fully explains why this clip just makes me an emotional mess.

I don’t know if Meredith mentioned it to you, but I met Brennan Manning at a Christian booksellers conference over a decade ago. I had never read a word he’d written and didn’t even spend any real time in conversation with him, but I was greatly impacted by him just the same. I think it was his eyes. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who said as much through his eyes as he did. And it was just something about his presence. He just seemed “realer” than most.

Since then I’ve read and have been impacted by his words. Thanks for continuing to whet our appetite for the book’s release. I can’t wait to read it.

  7. Kathy says:

John, thanks for your tender care with Brennan. This is a beautiful clip.
The book title is fantastic. I can’t think of a better phrase for summing up Brennan’s life.
    Blessings,
    Kathy

I clicked over from Meredith’s blog. I’ve never heard of Brennan Manning but, I loved that video clip and I now want to read this book! :) I’m very curious read a book about God’s deep love. I struggle to believe God loves me as deeply as the clip discussed God’s love. Can’t wait to read this book!

    • Ali, thanks for clicking over! This book is his memoir…two of his previous titles that really speak to God’s love are The Ragamuffin Gospel and Abba’s Child…I’d direct you to those two books, they’re excellent!

can you tell me the name of the song and the artist playing behind this trailer…beautiful. You could not have picked a more fitting tribute song! Love Brennan and his books…what an inspiration to all! God Bless!

  10. Tim Bergren says:

Brennan led a retreat for the Multnomah crew when we lived in Oregon. He was a combination of swirling, righteous anger and gentle serenity—all in one sentence. And while you probably won’t say it, I will. If anyone can capture a human being in words, you are that writer. And I’m not saying that because I want a signed copy either…

    I want a signed copy.

All I can say is WOW!!!!! Brennan has been an inspiration to me…….he used to be my stepfather and he is one of the most loving and caring men I have ever known. John, thank you for writing this book..

  13. Ed Moise says:

As Jesus spoke “Love God and love one another”…Abba as Daddy and Do you believe God loves you as you are? are fitting tribute to the simplicity of Brennan’s message. Well done. I miss my friend.
    Peace,
    Ed

  14. I too loved the clip and am sure the book will be a fitting tribute to our dear friend

John, You probably don’t remember me, I met you back in 2005 when I came to Colorado from Georgia to attend Captivating with Meredith and Julie Glenn. My oldest daughter, Hannah, (who house sat for you guys when you were out of town when she lived in CO) told me about this. I was blown away when I saw it. What a great book I know this will be. You both are amazing writers…. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. If you need anyone to do a review for you I’d love to be on the list…

I know this will be amazing… you are truly a gifted writer…

    Julie
    (from Georgia)

    • Julie, sure I remember you…thanks for the note…the book releases in October, so as we get closer we’ll ask for/get reviews and I’ll keep you in mind.

Thank you again for the kind words.

      • Julie Todd says:

Thanks John, It would be my pleasure to give reviews on my blog, Amazon (where I have a storefront), Barnes and Noble, Facebook and wherever else you can think of… Thank you for keeping me in mind!

        Can’t wait to read it!

  17. Amanda says:

I love Brennan’s heart as seen through his wiriting, and it has been the way to so much healing in me. I choked up watching this video, it’s amazing. I can’t wait for this book! (and I’ll most definately lurk around your blog!)

  18. Ron says:

My heart was so moved. I was unaware ofhis condition. Can someone fill me in?

  19. K Helmers says:

I can’t help thinking of the hot topic I began hearing about years ago from (especially male) Christian leaders: “finishing well.” I always wondered about that phrase. Brennan’s life stands in contrast to the American Christian norm of an upright, Bible-study-attending family man who keeps his nose clean and his pants zipped while continuing to make disciples into his old age. When you’re so broken that God’s grace is the only reality that gives your life meaning, at least you’re not susceptible to the righteous pride of a self-consciously godly person. And if any light shines out of you, it is indeed only the light of Christ that can do so.
